Coordinates day to day tasks related to designing, implementing and/or completing clinical research projects. Ensures that research protocols are carried out correctly, including all documentation and administrative issues. Works with others in a research team environment.
General Description: Will manage and coordinate care of Radiation Oncology patients participating in designated clinical trials under the direction of the Radiation Oncology Research Program Manager and Principal Investigator (PI). Anticipates requirements for designated patient populations; screens potential research subjects for participation in clinical trials and evaluates ongoing eligibility of research subjects. Ensures collection of pertinent data for the protocol.
Monitors compliance with requirements of assigned clinical trials and works with the Study Coordinator to resolve queries and review monitoring reports to identify and correct deficiencies.
Ensures that patients and staff education needs are met with regard to assigned protocols. Reports protocol deviations and adverse events to the study team in a timely manner. Responsible for scheduling patient follow-up and collection of specimens. Lists and clarifies concerns and questions about new protocols with PI/sponsors.
Proposes and negotiates alternatives to improve protocol implementation. Reviews and assesses new protocol for clarity, thoroughness, logistical feasibility, maintaining subject safety, etc.
Represents department at research and protocol initiation meetings, applies knowledge to assist the investigator in determining adverse event causality ad relationship to research treatment. Will work closely with Regulatory team, Research Coordinators, and PI.
Scope of Responsibility:
Knows the key formal and informal goal of the department and research team and asks for guidance appropriately. Use own judgment in achieving goals of good research practices, good documentation and interactions with patients, staff and health care professionals.
Organizes own time and sets priorities for patients on assigned research protocols. Demonstrates understanding of the informed consent process. Displays knowledge of protocol endpoint definitions.
Decision Making: On a regular and consistent basis exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people in the workplace and potential or actual research subjects. Uses judgment to maintain and improve the quality of service within the research program.
Communication: Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Successful completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
Prior experience as an RN in an oncology setting preferred.
Working conditions: Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, radiation, and pharmacologic agents. Safety regulations must be followed. Work schedules are determined by protocol activity and may demand flexible and/or extended work hours.
