WorkSource Oregon Health Educator I, II or III in Crescent City, California

REQUIREMENTS: Educator I: College coursework that includes 30 semester units in health and/or human services, sociology, or closely related field and one year experience in a health or human service agency performing counseling or health related educational services. Knowledge of: the principles, methods, techniques and materials of counseling and/or health education; effective public presentations which includes both oral and visual aides; and principles of interviewing and problem solving methodology. Ability to: apply education principles and practices as they apply to assigned programs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of other agencies, co-workers and the general public; and work weekends, evenings, or other hours necessary to present programs to various groups and the general public. Educator II: In addition to the above, appointment at the II level requires one year experience as a I or two years in a comparable position. Educator III: Graduation from college with a Baccalaureate Degree and one year full time experience or its equivalent in a health services agency or program performing health promotion, health prevention or health education work. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Participates in the planning, organizing and evaluation of various public health programs. Prepares educational documents and promotional materials to be utilized in presentations. Coordinates and schedules presentations before school groups, community service and church organizations, youth groups and other interested persons. Provides group and individual educational counseling for tobacco cessation and other health related issues. Presents comprehensive health and social service data when answering various questions generated by information presented. Conducts in-service training of other social service and health professionals in assigned programs. Participates in departmental conferences regarding program polices, procedures, effectiveness, etc. Meets and confers with representatives of a variety of other service agencies to facilitate program activities. Acts as an information source regarding assigned program operations, polices and procedures. Assist in obtaining survey data for the development of evaluation as tools for program and presentation analysis. Prepares statistical reports for presentation to program administrators. Performs related duties as necessary. COMPENSATION: Appointment will be made at the minimum biweekly salary set forth in the range below.
