Position Id 2017-sc448 Job summaryJob description/Responsibilities: Description Job Summary: Renders basic and advanced life support care of the highest quality in the Prehospital care setting in accordance with established hospital policies and procedures and the state regulations as set forth by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Emergency Medical Services. Provides care to patients ranging from neonatal through geriatric.Essential Duties:The Paramedic in the Emergency Department must be able to perform a variety of tasks assisting patients and nurses in specified pre-approved procedures.Must demonstrate technical, clerical and interpersonal skills. ust have strong organizational skills to effectively handle a heavy workload and maintain efficiency in the work environment, often under stressful work conditions.Maintaining a cool and calm demeanor, being flexible and adaptable to quick change in patient load.Must have a thorough understanding of patient care, patient flow, and ability to provide quality customer service, and maintain a good working knowledge of the unit.Paramedics cannot administer narcotics in the ER.The following list enumerates the more significant procedures which EMS Paramedics may perform in the Emergency Department when requested in order to maintain and continually develop advanced skill proficiency:Calculation, preparation, and administration of correct dosages of intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral medications in the Emergency Department only after consultation with the Charge Nurse, who is also responsible for all medications given.Assembly of intravenous equipment, venipuncture, and initiation of peripheral intravenous lines EXCEPT as listed previously above.Cardiac monitoring with recognition of the major dysrhythmias, including defibrillation and use of resuscitative drugs, under the instruction of a physician or R.N.Airway management procedures, including oropharyngeal airways, bag-mask and demand valve devices.Assist R.N. with initiation of Emergency Department Standing Orders pertaining to cardiac and overdoses.
