Summary: Performs professional dental care in the field of dental hygieneincluding all related clinical procedures. Has broad responsibilities forclinical and community dental health education activities. Approach tasksin a team based care fashion that supports patients and their families inself-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Works primarily underthe supervision of the Center Dental Director; but also works under thesupervision of the Executive VP of Dental Services and all clinic dentists.Exercises supervision of the dental assistants and other assigned personnel.Requirements:*Graduation from an accredited School of Dental Hygiene.*Previous experience desired, but not required.*Possession of a valid current license as a registered dental hygienist inthe State of Colorado. Maintain current CPR Certification.*Working knowledge of all phases of the field of dental hygiene.*Skill in the techniques of oral hygiene procedures and the use ofequipment, instruments and materials.*Must work well with other patient care team members.*Knowledge and practice of preventative dentistry and ability to instructpatients individually and in groups.*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship withpatients and staff.*Ability to operate, maintain, and document in the electronic record.*Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must.*Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.Duties:*Acts as a patient advocate for our vulnerable populations by ensuring thatthe patients are fully informed and comfortable with their visit.*Works in conjunction with Medical Providers, Dental Providers, BehavioralHealth Providers and all other staff to ensure that the patient obtains thehighest standard of integrated health care.*Follows procedures for the electronic health records.*Provides following clinical services: Oral prophylaxis; instruction forproper home care techniques for oral hygiene including proper toothbrushing, flossing, nutrition, and need for professional care; topicalfluorides; screen and evaluate patients regarding caries detection,periodontal pathology, medical history; exposing, processing and mountingof radiographs, supra and subgingival scaling and curettage; root planing;procedures involving team periodontal surgical techniques; performing ofexpanded duties where qualified, as delegated by dentist and governed byColorado law; administration of local anesthetics; and gross debridementin treatment of acute periodontal conditions.*Primarily responsible for the initiation and maintenance of the dentalprevention and dental education program.*Assists in the training of dental assistants and in the precepting of dentalhygiene students.*Provide dental health services appropriate to the age-specific needs of allpatients in accordance with the principles of growth and development forinfant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric life cycles.*Is responsible for the sterilization of instruments, and the cleaning androutine maintenance of equipment and work areas.*Participates in the Medical-Dental Integration Program.*Performs other duties as assigned.
