Under the supervision of the PSM and under the direction of the registered nurse, performs specific duties and supports patient care in the Pediatric Specialty Centers. Examples of duties include: cast application, assisting with procedures, direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing high quality, efficient, care. Contributing to efficient flow of operations, collaborating with all members of the multidisciplinary team and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse

  • Greets and escorts the patient and family to the examination room, cast room, or other clinical area, to begin the outpatient visit.

  • Under the direction of the Physician/LIP or registered nurse performs technical procedures

  • Applies or removes casts and performs miscellaneous casting procedures, ensuring and order by MD/LIP to support care

  • Participates in educational and team related activities to ensure competency and high quality care delivery

  • Completes all mandatory education for YNHH, and role

  • Supports the environment of Care and Operational support for the clinic

  • Follows up and reports any malfunctioning equipment as per policy for site, including communication to manager for any outstanding issues

Qualifications

EDUCATION

high school education or GED, certification in orthopedic technician, Medical Assistant Certification will be considered if experience in an orthopedics.

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years of orthopedic inpatient or outpatient experience, including pediatrics

LICENSURE

orthopedic tech or MA certification

SPECIAL SKILLS

must have knowledge of anatomy & skeletal structure, including experience with cast application (techniques and methods)

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Requires good manual dexterity, ability to use power equipment, assist with lifting, transferring, or mobilizing patients. Requires standing and walking throughout the day and use of good body mechanics

Additional Information

CERTIFICATION IN ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICIAN OR MEDICAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATION WITH EXPERIENCE IN ORTHOPEDICS. MUST HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF ANATOMY & SKELETAL STRUCTURE, INCLUDING EXPERIENCE WITH CAST APPLICATION (TECHNIQUES AND METHODS)
