POSITION SUMMARY

This position assists the professional rehabilitation staff by providing direct service to adolescents in implementing activity and rehabilitation groups.

Essential Position Duties

  1. Plans and conducts both large and small activity groups and outings independently, but under the direct or indirect supervision of the Director, a Rehab Therapist or their designee.

  2. Develops a theme and schedules a series of special events for assigned holiday or event.

  3. Maintains visual awareness of resident's physical and psychiatric limitations and insures the safety of residents at all times.

  4. Enlist the cooperation of nursing staff in participating in the structured activity program, as necessary.

  5. Monitors resident's attendance at assigned activities and maximizes resident participation through appropriate motivational techniques.

  6. Assists nursing in managing resident's unstructured time, mealtime and for coverage, when necessary.

  7. Accurately documents in writing each resident's attendance and response to activity and therapeutic groups in the individual medical record or on department forms.

  8. Attends and actively participates in Treatment Team meetings.

  9. Assists with maintaining inventory and equipment by inspecting equipment and supply levels and then communicating needs to the Director or Therapists.

  10. Encourages a spirit of cooperation with co-workers.

  11. When assigned, drives facility vehicle on outings/field trips.

  12. Maintains an awareness of and support for facility marketing goals and efforts.

  13. Attends mandatory in-services and department/facility meetings as required.

  14. Ensures that all OSHA and safety standards are followed, as applicable to the position and in the business location or workplace in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  15. Adheres to location and department/company policy and procedures.

  16. Adheres to established HIPAA confidentiality standards of patient/resident and client location information.

  17. Performs all duties and tasks as assigned.

Professional Experience/Educational Requirements:1. Six months experience working with mentally ill, experience with adolescents preferred.2. Two years residential child care experience or equivalent inpatient psychiatric experience preferred.3. Bachelor-s degree in child counseling, development or psychology, social services or vocational counseling required.4. Bachelor-s degree in therapeutic recreation, art, music or drams therapy preferred.Certification/Licensure:1. Valid (state) Driver-s license.2. Valid (state) Class -B- Driver-s License or ability to be licensed within three months of employment.
