RN - Per Diem Clinic Nurse - Option 3 - Chemotherapy Services - 170021Y5 DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Per Diem and Agency RN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient and family care in the chemotherapy room and cancer clinics. He/she is expected to competently perform the patient care responsibilities of the registered nurse within the assigned work setting. Responsibilities include the systematic collection and assessment of data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic care with the patient and/or family. He/she performs all required elements of a nursing assessment including but not limited to physical examination, assessment of readiness to learn, psychosocial assessment, functional assessment and utilization of patient/family specific assessment scales as required. He/she considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering care. The RN's decisions and actions with patients and families are determined in an ethical manner. He/she establishes goals and a strategy for meeting the discharge or continuing care needs of the patient, family, and/or other care provider as required. Care is provided in collaboration with other nursing staff members; he/she delegates and supervises care in accordance with nurse practice acts and the professional nursing role. Per Diem or other work arrangements, such as provided through contractual arrangements with outside agencies, are temporary and do not provide for guaranteed work hours (scheduling and hours based on assigned per diem option). Given the unpredictability of the work schedule, the Per Diem or Agency Nurse is expected to closely follow the plan of care as outlined by the charge nurse, coordinator, or designated RN. Work Schedule: This is a per diem position. 60% FTE, Day, 8 hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with start times varying between 8 am and 10:30 am. Hours may vary based on the departmental needs. Per Diems interested in maximizing earnings and working a routine schedule for a defined time period on/in a specific clinical unit, clinic, home health or surgical services, should consider Option 3. In this program, Per Diems agree to work for a predetermined time period in one of these areas. All the assignments require at least a 60 percent time commitment along with required off-shift, weekend hours and/or stand-by hours. UW Health offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Work Experience Minimum One (1) year chemotherapy experience. Preferred Experience with VAD and conscious sedation Required Licenses/Certifications Minimum Registration as a professional nurse in the State of Wisconsin. CPR certification. Preferred Chemotherapy certification, OCN Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Physical Requirements: Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
