$ 27.50 Hourly/32 hour per weekTravel throughout Brevard county schools to perform oral health screening, apply sealants and oral health education. Must be a highly motivated self-starter and comfortable working one on one with children. Must excel in clerical duties such as maintaining accurate records in patients chart, medical and dental histories. Records treatment information in patient records. Good driving record a plus.
Ensuring returned positive consent forms is essential for increased participation. RDH actions to support this:
Contacts school personnel identified for each school to discuss the program/requirements.
Provides short oral health promotion presentations to targeted classrooms prior to the date for applying sealants to familiarize and establish rapport with teachers and children, to migrate children’s apprehensions and provide information on sealants and the process for applying them.
Promotes the sealant program through school health staff and school personnel.
Continues contact with teachers and school nurses to follow-up for returned consent forms.
Provides appropriate oral health education materials to children, parents, teachers, nurses and school administrators.
Transports and sets up equipment and supplies needed to implement the program.
Provides dental assessments and records on the SEALS child-level data collection form using the Basic Screening Survey (BSS) summarized as follows:
Untreated decay-presence of cavitated lesions.
Treated decay-presence of any type of filling, including a temporary filling or an extracted tooth due to tooth decay.
Dental Sealants-presence of dental sealants on permanent molars.
Urgency of need for dental care-urgent, early. Or no obvious problems.
Provides oral health instructions-toothbrush instructions
Provides oral health hygiene kits to participating children
Provides dental sealants on prescribed teeth for students who furnish the signed and dated consent/medical history form.
Applies fluoride varnish.
Informs parent/legal guardian of procedures completed and referral status through parent forms sent home with each student.
Initiates follow-up call to inform parents of students who have active decay noted.
Evaluates the success of a DOH-S-BSP through sealant retention checks.
