UPMC Professional Staff Nurse - 2 Southeast Medical Surgical in New Castle, Pennsylvania
UPMC Jameson is currently hiring a flex full-time Professional Staff Nurse to support the 2 Southeast Medical Surgical Unit at our New Castle, PA location. 2 Southeast is a 23 bed medical surgical unit with semi and private rooms. Our areas of care include stroke management, CHF management, and Sepsis care. Our nurses train and are Certified in the NIH stroke scale assessment. We also train the nursing staff to be competent to manage patients on the cardiac monitor. This unit will prepare you with the experience to work in a Critical Care setting due to the types of patients on this unit. Staffing ratios are 5:1 on days and afternoon shifts, 6:1 on nights. Our RNs work a variable schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. This position will schedule you for 32 hours per week with the ability to flex up to 40 hours per week or down to 28 hours per week. The Professional Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. Six months experience is required for Professional Staff Nurses; inexperienced/Graduate Nurses may be hired at the Staff Nurse level until requisite experience is obtained (GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure). Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Graduate Nurses that are eligible for the State Board Licensure and Professional Staff Nurses with nursing experience will be considered for this position. Please note that the below salary may vary pending years of experience and education of the selected candidate. Minimum salary for a Graduate Nurse is $24.31 per hour. Responsibilities:

The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures. Minimum 6 months experience. BSN preferred. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment. Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
