Job Description

Job Summary:

The RN-Labor&Delivery/Couplet Care provides direct patient care to mothers and infants in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes the nursing assessment and intervention by determining the patient's immediate condition or needs. Implements and monitors patient care plans.

  • Performs or assists physician with performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including genetic diagnostics, ultrasound imaging and select surgical procedures.

  • Administers medications/interventions as prescribed and evaluates and records progress.

  • Performs and/or monitors clinical research protocols to stay current with trends, technologies and advances in maternal fetal medicine.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Provides education to patients regarding maternal and newborn care.

Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support specializing in Advanced Cardio Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Advanced Life Support is required prior to hire or transfer date at SHHEC.

  • BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. NRP not required at SHHP.

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Florida Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Certification specializing in The S.T.A.B.L.E Program.

Education:

  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing program required

Work Experience:

  • One year of experience as a staff registered nurse preferred.

  • One year of experience as a staff registered nurse in an LDR setting with a mother-baby nursing model of care is preferred.

  • One year of experience as a Staff Registered Nurse is required to work PRN.
