Job Details:

VCU Health System's Main Kitchen is seeking a part time Dietary Aide 3 to provide excellent customer service skills in meeting the nutritional meal service standards to include room service for the Food and Nutrition Department. Delivers and/or prepares food trays in accordance with current patient diet orders. Takes menu orders honoring food preferences, allergies, diet restrictions, etc. Ensures food supplies are available in galley areas and are dated appropriately. Follows proper food safety and sanitation standards in the galley areas. Guides individuals and families in food selection, preparation and menu planning based upon nutritional needs for medical condition including the Bone Marrow and Pediatric Units based on specialty menus. Responsibilities Communicates with and greets all patients, families, visitors, and healthcare professionals in a can-do, helpful, and respectful manner at all times according to Food & Nutrition's hospitality standards. Participates in nursing activities to support patient care and to promote patient nutritional needs. Prints Diet Order Sheets and any other required documents. Completes all on-line mandatory training topics as assigned. Identifies, and verifies correct diet order to be served from CIS Diet information. Determines appropriate menu to be used for patient. Assembles all diet specific patient trays and utilizes all tray identifiers as required. Uses electronic device to enter patient menu orders at bedside according to prescribed diet order. Offers suggestions and alternate choices to patients according to prescribed diet order. Locates all patient units and rooms throughout medical center. Delivery and retrieval of patient trays and nourishments according to established time requirements. Orders floor stock needs according to established par levels; stores, rotates, and labels all food items according to food safety guidelines. Performs inventory functions. Uses cleaning chemicals and tools to clean equipment in galley and uses necessary PPE. Qualifications Required Must possess reading and writing skills and comprehend and communicate in English Minimum of two (2) years of previous food service or customer service work experience Previous experience with special diets Preferred High School Diploma or equivalent ServSafe Food Handling Certificate Previous food service experience in a health care setting Previous wait staff experience in food service Previous experience with basic computer applications Bilingual in Spanish
